June 5, 2012 - Washington, DC - Dr Lubomyr Romankiw, at the IBM Watson Research facility. Dr Lubomyr Romankiw graduated from the University of Alberta in 1955 and has recently been inducted in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Dr. Lubomyr Romankiw and Dr. David Thompson, both IBM Fellows, are recognized for their invention of a technique that produced the first practical and manufacturable thin film magnetic head, which increased the density of data stored on magnetic disks and dramatically reduced the cost of data storage.
